Need Advice...Student Loans...which Lender is better?

Hi all,
I need some advice. We are helping our daughter with her financial aid packet and she will be taking out the $5,500 in student loans that they have offered.

Does anyone know which student loan lenders are the best?

We called the financial aid office at my daughters college but they said they are not allowed to recommend one lender over another.

In everyone's experience out there...is one Lender better than another??

Thank you all! :)

[Discover Student Loans - Apply online for college loans](http://www.discoverstudentloans.com) did not take out any origination or guarantor fees from my son’s stafford loan.

Oh! Thank you…just the information we are looking for.
Anyone else have any suggestions?
:)

why not home equity loan?

Are you going to co-sign?

If so, make sure the lender you choose will release the co-signer after a certain period of on-time payments. Some never release the co-signer, and this is obviously a bad thing because you will be on the hook forever.

I used this site to get a lot of good information (I did not use it to get a loan, so I am not endorsing it at all, but I liked the way they laid out the information):

<edit> For private loans, Discover does not do a co-signer release.</edit>

Just realized you are probably talking about a Stafford, so co-signer isn’t an issue.

amother - a home equity loan is in the Parent’s name while the Stafford loan is in the student’s name.
While the HE interest may be lower - a Stafford is basically free money until graduation for subsidized loans and it won’t cause foreclosure.

^Also, Stafford loans can be forgiven in certain cases. No forgiveness on the mortgage!
