if a student was already admited to LSA "2013" but now wants to do engineering, what courses should he take that optimizes his chances to swtich to engineering? He had very good test scores for math (34 composite and a 36 math score and A's in BC calculus in HS).

Of course he would need good grades but what courses should he take freshmen year?

Is it possible to try to switch 1/2 through freshmen year to engineering?

Would be especially interested in bio-medical engineering.

Here are just a couple things I suggest you take as a biomed engr bound student:
-If you didn’t pass out of Chemistry, take Gen Chem and Orgo 1, else take Orgo 1 and Orgo 2.
-If you didn’t pass out of Physics Mechanics, take Physics 140.
-If you didn’t pass out of Calculus 1&2, take them. Else either go honors calc 2/3 or calc 3/4.
-If you didn’t pass out of computer science, take Engr101
-Take SS/HU classes, English 125 (will overide the need of Engr100) to fill the rest of the credits.

I don’t believe its possible to transfer half-way in the school year.

It might not be possible to do it halfway through freshman year, but this is not a big deal at all. In fact, you are probably better off remaining in LSA the entire year because you can still take all these classes and just pay the lower LSA tuition.

Anyways…what j89 said is pretty accurate. I usually try to tell people that you have four years to get everything done…don’t jump into a bunch of tougher courses right off the bat! Get the As that will be easy for you freshman/sophomore year, they will help your internship prospects, GPA, etc. down the line. And since you seem like you are pretty well-prepared, these classes really shouldn’t be too difficult for you.

For bio-med and based on your grades, take these courses freshman year.

English 125
Engin 101
Applied Honors Calc II and III
Gen Chem and Organic Chem
Physics 140

You should have no trouble getting an A in Calc II…your probably took Gen Chem in high school so that should be an A…I really recommend banking the As because it gets tougher to earn them over time!
