I'm a HS senior class of 08, I came in 8th grade
i'm currently working on my personal statement, and i plan to write about this immigration experience, but i don't want to make it sappy or pitiful
how can i do that?
like what should i be focusing on?
thanks

Pretend you are telling your story to your future college room mate.

myuser, try the indirect approach. Pick one incident or event that you can use to exemplify or illuminate your life experience. It doesn’t have to be a major life altering event; just something that happened to you, your family, your community that highlights the experience of being an immigrant.

Colleges want kids from diverse backgrounds – not just racially different but also culturally. Your essay should illustrate (show by example, not directly say) how you will be able to contribute an unusual viewpoint to the campus community because of your life experience.

Keep your words simple and direct. I like what riverrunner said: just imagine it’s 3 in the morning and you and your roommate are exchanging life stories.

Good luck and let us know how you do.,
