I am currently a freshman at Occidental College in LA and realized recently that it just simply wasnt the place for me. Im now deciding between spending the spring semester at home at a local CCC or finishing the year at Occidental and then transfering. Im looking to eventually transfer to a school with a better business program possibly USC or Georgetown. Would it hurt my chances of getting into those schools if I do my spring semester at a CCC rather than at Occidental?

Thanks

It shouldn’t hurt your chances. Does Oxy even have a business program? I thought they just had Econ or something.

Do you like the school overall though? I’m actually applying there as an English major so I’d like to know :)

If you can, stick it out. Your opinion might change, or maybe not. How are your grades this semester? If they are not good or simply decent, I would recommend you finish out the year. It might look as though you wanted to take the easy route by going to a community college. I understand this is not the case from your post, but it might come across that way to an adcom. I was considering community college, but then I realized–if i leave now, what am I missing out on? There are so many opportunities for you at your school, try to take advantage of them while you’re there. I hope this helps, or at least made you think about it some more. I wish you the best of luck in your endeavours.

I also think you should stick it out at Occidental for the year; it’s a school with a good reputation, and if you show you can get good grades there it should help your chances. Also, like colegePLEASE says, they might think you left to go to the CC because you couldn’t handle the academics.

Ireds4life: Nope oxy doesnt have a business program. Overall, the school is pretty good – the people are very friendly and its easy to make friends, but its really small and the school sometimes has trouble with funding. That being said I have a lot of friends who are english majors and love it.

My grades this semester should be around 3.75-3.85. Thanks for the advise everyone and Ill use the break to think about my options.

I don’t like the school I am currently attending because its too small and in a rural area. I originally planned on transferring at the end of the year because my grades in high school were poor. Just recently I’ve really started to dislike the school so I’m going to apply to a few schools for next semester that are fairly easy to get into and then transfer to my dream school for fall’08 or spring’09. If you’re pretty happy at the school you’re going to now I would definitely transfer at the end of the year instead of next semester.
