I’m a current student at a community collegee and I’m Planning to transfer to a four year college. I didn’t decide what major should I do and I have to decide because I don’t have time. I love math, so I was looking for a major that has a lot of math. First I was going to major in engineering. I was thinking between civil or architecture. Then I changed my mind to business majors because I fond myself not interesting in engineering classes. Now I wanna decide which one finance or accounting has more opportunities. Which one is better??
What would be wrong with just being a Math major? Have you thought about that?
Have a chat with the career center at your CC and get help investigating careers that finance or accounting majors would get you ready for.
I’ve thought about being a math major, but I don’t like teaching at school level. If it’s a college level, then it’s okay.
Thank you for your help. I’m going to talk some advisors so they can help me.
What about actuary science ? Data science?
Many companies employ math graduates. They don’t all become teachers. My D2 is a math grad and does modeling and simulation.
Yeah, you don’t have to be a teacher with a math major. I’d wager most math majors actually aren’t teachers.
Consider just majoring in math or statistics. You could be an actuary or a data scientist with either one of those majors (there are other classes you’d need to take as well - business and economics for the former; computer science for the latter - but you can definitely major in math).
But if you are really interested in business, finance is going to have more actual and higher-level math. Accounting, according to some close accountant friends, is just basic algebra.
