I am in my first semester at OCC and taking 3 summer courses (9 units). I submitted a research paper late (couple hours) to my teacher who had previously said that she would not accept any late work. If she does not accept it, I might get a C or lower. If she does then I might stay in the class. I am seriously considering dropping with a W, but the last day to do that is today. What does a W look like when transferring. I want to transfer to UC Berkeley.

A single W is insignificant.

You can have a bunch! I had 5 and I got into Cal and UCLA.

1 W will not affect you in any way, i know someone who had 10 W’s but still got into cal and ucla. But i suggest not having TOO many … 1-3 is fine. A W looks better than a C since it doesnt affect your gpa whereas a C can make your gpa drop significantly.

I got into Berkeley and UCLA with 6 or 7 Ws. 3 of which were in a single semester.

i had 19.

they are irrelevant to UCs

Thanks for the info! I dropped the class with a W

3 here

I think they expect to see a couple.

For transferring to a UC, I don’t think it should matter; however, if you plan on going to grad school try and get as minimum w’s as possible. Grad schools care about w’s.

Ws may hurt your chance if you apply for the competitive majors in UCLA/Cal.

That is not true at all. I am a psych major. VERY competitive.

W’s will not hurt your chances for competative majors at any UC.
