I just found out one of my classes is only a semester so I have to figure out another class. My choices are Ap European history, Ap psychology, Ap world history or honors discrete mathematics. I will be a sophomore and this is my schedule so far

Ap chemistry
Ap environmental science
Ap human geography
Ap computer science
Ap statistics
Ap macroeconomics
Honors English 2

The only reason I would take discrete is because I don't want to spread myself so thin and only have 1 math course that isn't even really math (statistics) I know world history would be hell with the teacher that is currently teaching it but I know a lot of people in that class and I enjoy the material. Ap psyc is a lot of Busywork but again I enjoy the subject and ap European I think would be a lot of fun but it would be difficult (but no as difficult as world)

Thank you in advanced!

world was hell for me I would most likely go for Euro if I had the choice but if you looking for something easy take psychology. I hated the broadness of World I felt like I was always skimming :(

Oh and I take courses online so I teach myself do not know if that matters.

Hmm…well, it seems like you already have enough AP’s (although there’s certainly no limit). I would probably opt for the honors discrete mathematics since I think it is pretty important to have a math class each year. I’m not sure whether AP Statistics would count as a math class though. I actually enjoyed AP World…does the teacher at your school make it more difficult than it should be? At our school, we were fine as long as we read the textbook (admittedly, there was a lot of reading).

Stats is considered a math class but I don’t know if it will look bad to have 3 sciences 3 history ten only 1 semester of a math. Also the material in world history is easy but the teacher assigns so much busywork and hw that most people I have talked to spend 3 hrs a night on and with all my other classes I don’t think I could handle 3 additional hours a night

I’m pretty sure AP Statistics is a math class…do you have enough AP courses to take in future years? Also, other than AP statistics, shouldn’t you be taking a math course like algebra 2 or precalculus/trigonometry that will lead to AP calculus?

I took Precalc as a freshman and ten for sophomore I have the option of either ap stats or ap calc. Ap calc at my school is nearly impossible and I don’t know if can handle that along with all my other Ap classes so I would rather take stats. I’m planning on taking IB and I will get my calculus in IB. I also want to be an economics major so I think Ap statistics would be more useful.

Discrete and statistics are the same thing…at least here they are.

You need a math along the lines of algebra or trig/precalc or calc.

Would it be really bad if I just take stats then jr and sr year take the IB equivalent of Ap calc and a higher level math then take the ap exams? I just don’t want to load myself down with Ap calculus along with my other classes.

I am not sure because I do not use IB sorry :(

So…are you planning to take IB Math HL in your senior year? You would probably be able to take the AP Calc exam with minimal extra studying then. I think that’s a good idea, as long as you don’t forget what you learned in Precalc by the time you take Calc.

I’m an IB Diploma candidate, and I usually just take both the IB and AP exams at the end of the year, so I can get the maximum possible credit.

Yup I’m going to take math HL. I’m not sure if I should take Ap calculus sophomore year then no have to work as hard in IB or take stats to have a different type of math. I know calc will be incredibly hard as a sophomore so I’m not sure which 1 to take.

Are you planning on taking calculus before you graduate from high school?

I’m definitely going to do IB mathematics HL which is basically calc and more advanced math and I am also going to take the calculus Ap test junior year. I’m not technically going to take the class “ap calculus ab or bc” but I’m taking the equivalent and also the ap test.

So your school has IB and AP? You’re lucky you get to take so many APs in 10th grade…

If you take IB Math HL, and then do well on the AP Calc exam, it doesn’t really matter whether or not you took the AP Calc course. Both IB and AP courses will be considered as equally rigorous. It doesn’t make much sense to take AP Calc in your sophomore year and then take IB Math HL in junior year because both of the courses are very similar.

Ok thank you! So do you think I should take ap psychology ap European history or ap world?

Or is there another Ap that I could take?
