Here's my situation. Fairfield University is my top choice of college, and I will have no problem getting in. The real problem is that the tuition is about $60,000 per year. I know I'll get a decent amount of money, but I won't be able to the attend Fairfield if I don't get at least $15,000 per year in scholarships. Here's where things get interesting. The CEO of my dad's company went to Fairfield and is on the Board of Trustees at the college. I am going to my dad's work during one of these upcoming weeks to express my interest to him and possibly have an official interview. This connection will play a huge role in my acceptance, but will it somehow end up in a bigger scholarship for me? How much power do Board of Trustee members have at universities?

No and no. Having a person on the Board of Trustees does not guarantee admission, and will most likely not affect any FA offered. Run the Net Price Calculator to see what the expected FA will be. Make sure you have a safety on your list that you like, can afford, and can definitely get in.

Might help for admission (dubious), not at all for scholarships.

Board members wouldn’t usually do the interview, that would fall to the admissions office if they do them. I d use any contact to express interest yes and ask him questions, I’d be careful not to try to be seen as expecting special favors.

Very true. At many selective universities, that would directly lead to the reject pile.
