I have recently learned that once again the downturn has rendered my family unemployed. This is the second time that we have reached this point during the past two years, so finances have become much tighter than in the past. I was hoping that some of you could guide me towards a few potential financial safeties to which I could apply, as even with our situation EFC is probably more than we can afford.

Here are my stats:
2370 SAT (800M/800CR/770W)
3.87 UW GPA at a Boarding School (no official rank but around top 5/100)
SAT IIs: 800 Physics, 790 US History, 790 Math IIc, 780 Chem
5s on Physics C Mech and E/M, Calculus BC, French V, US History, Took Calc III at local college and received A-, taking Linear Algebra on EPGY.

A Plethora of ECs (with lots of leadership), some major research experience, and a solid quantity of awards.

I have also been accepted to UW-Madison, Caltech, and UChicago.

Washington U. in St. Louis has a good combination of financial aid and merit scholarships. It’s not a safety school for anyone, even someone with your impressive achievements, but you certainly are in the running to be admitted and to get a merit scholarship.

I ended up taking the suggestions of a few of you, applying to WUSTL and Denison, as well.

However, circumstances have greatly improved since I last posted here; UChicago has given me a substantial merit scholarship and Caltech has offered to give my family enough finaid if my father is still unemployed later in the spring. So, things seemed to have worked out quite well :).
