I am currently a Junior (with only one more week left of school) and will be a senior in the fall of 2016. I have amazing grades my sophomore year (GPA was over 3.7 I believe) but this school year I’ve done horribly! My GPA is lower than a 3.0 and I am barely passing my classes. Temple University is my dream school and I’m so scared I won’t get in. Are there any tips anyone has? Their acceptance rate is pretty good and I think that if I do well on the ACT and SAT, that may help a little but I don’t know I heard that a lot of people with GPAs 3.8+ were waitlisted or rejected. I’m also out of state (coming from Massachusetts). I feel like I have such a slim chance!
The admissions process involves so much more than gpa. Standardized test scores, extracurricular activities, community involvement, etc. are also important. Try to keep your grades up senior year, and good luck!
The best you can do is finish strong and have a great year next year. Temple looks at more than just a single year. If you can show them that you came back from it, it only goes in your favor. Temple also considers standardized test scores and etc as mentioned by @Dwarvo
I’m a sophomore at Temple. I got in with a 3.6 and 1810 SAT. I know of people with lower gpa’s and test scores that got in to Temple.
You’re going to have to study seriously for the SAT/ACT and get a great score. If you get a 27+ on the ACT, you should be fine, however I don’t know about the new SAT. Write a banging essay. It will help.
Do you know what you want to major in? Some schools are harder to get into than others. My son is going into his Jr. year @Tyler as a graphic design major and graduated hs with a 3.4 & ACT 27. FYI - we’re from MA also. Being OOS may be a plus depending on how many other OOS applicants there are next year.
