<p>I guess this question is primarily for the Tufts admissions reps. </p>
<p>Can you explain Tufts' 'need aware' policy? When in the admissions process (for each student and for the entire pile) does it come into play? And to what degree do you look at need-- in other words, do you just factor whether a student is applying for aid or do you actually consider how much aid that student will need? </p>

<p>Basically, need doesn't enter as a factor in our admissions process. Last year, we ran committee without need information, and I read applications without being need aware. Looking forward, it looks like we'll be repeating that this year. </p>
<p>To go on record as "Need Blind" you need a financial aid budget that 100% guarantees financial aid will not be a factor, and for that budget to be sustainable. And though it wasn't a factor last year, and it's extremely likely not to be a factor this year, we're still raising the capital that will create the conditions for that guarantee and make this a sustainable admissions practice at Tufts.</p>
