Need-Based Aid for Transfers...

I know that need-based aid is usually scarce for transfer students and often doesn't compare to what is offered to freshman, but after one year, the financial aid package of the second year one spends at the school he transfered comparable to what someone who has been there since freshman year gets?

Additionally, are there any schools that are particularly very transfer need-based aid friendly?

Anyone at all?

LACs like Pomona, Amherst, Middlebury and Williams I believe all offer needs based aid to transfers. Might want to double check that though.

My D attempted to transfer after freshman year. One counselor told us she would have been a better candidate for merit transfer aid if she had more credits...never thought that a junior might make out better for FA than a sophmore but apparently so.

Only applied to a couple schools, got in all but couldn't go because the transfer FA package just wasn't doable without BIG private alternative loans. Our experience (which may not generalize to other schools) For the school that on collegeboard.com profile gave 78% need met, we were offered 68% need. For the school that averaged 56%, we were offered 44%.

I believe it's true that schools in general do not give generous or even adequate merit & need based aid unless the candidate is really exceptional (like 3.7+)

hey im just transferring to cornell and i got excellent finaid.

my finaid was alright from cornell, definately better than usc.

I would give it a 7/10

What about the financial aid package offered to you the year after you transferred? Did it improve so that it was in line with what other non-transfer students get? Or did it continue to be subpar compared to the rest.

hey sorry i cant really answer that question because my first year will be this year.

I hope that someone has experience with TPol's question. We might be willing to bite the bullet for the first transfer year, if the FA package is reasonable the following year....anybody transfer 2 years ago?

No way it gets better. Usually the loan goes up each year.

Tulane gave me a crapload of money.
