How generous is Boston? My family’s EFC is 18,981.
BU does not guarantee to meet full need.
All i need is for the price to be below or right around 30k a year. Is that unrealistic?
Expect some grants but also max loans and work study/work in the summer contribution. (Unless your stats are extremely high, in which case you might get a scholarship).
Run the BU EFC. See what it gives you. BU does not promise to meet full need, but with promising candidates whom they wish to “entice” to campus, they may offer generous aid in a package that combines merit grants and need-based aid. As BU is a preferential packager in this sense, it is not a school where you can have a 100% guarantee of your aid being sufficient before applying. The EFC should give you a starting point for where BU places your need, and you can weigh the strength of your application package to determine whether you have a shot at an attractive financial aid package.
If you Google “New York Times Boston University financial aid,” you’ll find an illuminating article from 2009 that will give you an idea of how the Fin Aid office at BU works.
@mkat12 You might find this information put out by BU to be helpful. It provides a general idea of the range of aid and likelihood given grades, class rank, standardize test scores, course rigor, and family finances.
