I am really eager about potentially applying to NYU but my parents are apprehensive because of a family friend’s daughter who received a crappy financial aid package and they had to pay a ton for her to go to NYU. However, I believe they made a significant amount of money more than us, but I was still curious on how much financial aid I could realistically expect. My family’s efc is 18k. Your package could range from 0 to full. NYU does not meet financial need and its packages are preferential to those candidates it most wants. If you cannot steel yourself to walk away from an acceptance that you cannot afford, then you should not apply. If you know in advance that you can walk away from a package you cannot afford, there is no downside to applying (other than taking the time and effort to apply, of course).
