Need-based at Sewanee

Does anyone have experience with Sewanee for need-based aid? Sewanee is my son’s first choice and we will need financial aid.

Not sure. In another thread, someone wrote: “Sewanee (2/1) – 67.0% with no financial need received merit aid; $12,275 average merit aid.”

I saw this on US News for 2016-17. Sorry, I don’t have any direct experience as DC is an EA applicant for next fall.

“At Sewanee–University of the South, 47 percent of full-time undergraduates receive some kind of need-based financial aid, and the average need-based scholarship or grant award is $27,341.”

Have the EA decisions been released?

Am I the only one who is underwhelmed by the FA provided by Sewanee?
My D was admitted to two of the schools on CC Top Universities list, both of which cost $10K more than Sewanee, and both gave substantially more FA than Sewanee.
Caveats: 1. We are grateful for any FA, realising that the don’t have to give us anything.
2. FA offered was close to Sewanee COA calculator, so no surprises. But, I would say that other two schools gave substantially more than their COA calculator.

Just wondering if I am the only one with this question.

We have not yet received our son’s FA package. Sewanee is his first choice–and we have very little to offer financially. He did receive a 15000 merit…

FA was pretty much on par with other DC’s other schools so far. He did receive a very generous merit aid package.

To “The Sausage King of Chicago!” (I did get that reference right, didn’t I?) and aathad: Would either or both of you be willing/able to say a bit about your sons’ stats, extracurriculars, etc., if it wouldn’t be too much trouble? I’m hoping I might get a current idea of about what kind of numbers, activities, etc., might be in the ballpark to get merit aid at Sewanee. (Of course, if I’m prying, please excuse me. Thought it couldn’t hurt to inquire.)

Congrats on your boys’ admissions and good luck with the FA process.

@slachappy you did get the reference right! I’ll send you a PM with some additional information. I can’t say enough good things about Sewanee though. If you haven’t been there yet for a visit, I highly recommend it.

Ha! Every once and a while, I’ll make a catch. Thanks very much for replying; I’m most grateful. I hope things work out at Sewanee for you and for aathad.

42k overall merit aid. 3.3 GPA 1320 SAT. Lots of sports and ECs. Pledge not to raise tuition for the 4 years child attends and tuition is lower than many LAC’s to begin with.
