Need based calculations?

I just calculated my expected family contribution, using the Amherst and Cornell calculators (for American students) and got something around $8000.

Would I be correct in saying that the same computations apply for international students?

Your EFC is a minimum of $8,000 but 1° it doesn’t mean you’ll get enough financial aid to pay for the rest and 2° you’re not eligible for federal aid so each school will treat this differently and finally 3° each school calculates EFC differently (I ran numbers yesterday for someone who’s low income and the results went from $151 to $7,650!)
Use CollegeAbacus.

Thanks! Yeah I got the point about colleges not actually giving fin aid for the rest

I tried it CollegeAbacus out and I was surprised to get a net price of $41k for Colorado College and figures around that range for UChicago and Brown! ( That’s around $15k in aid :0 )

I probably did something wrong along the way, as I seriously doubt that it I’d have to be like, 20k a year poor, to get a decent value for need.

It may also be because the calculator does not take liabilities into account and tries to simplify the process by asking only for assets, so for the meantime, I’ll stick with the initial calculations.

“Would I be correct in saying that the same computations apply for international students?”

No.

Contact the international admissions offices at the places you are interested in, and ask each of them about aid formulas for international students. Do not expect any formula written for a US applicant to apply to you.
