Hey guys,
I am thinking to apply to UIUC next year. If I get in, I probably won't qualify for any merit aid. How is the need based Financial Aid for OOS students?

Income: 100k
1 parent working
1 older brother in college

Obviously, I cant afford to pay 50k/year to go to college. Can anyone help me find out how much aid I might get?

Not really. You need to apply first. Then fill out FAFSA. Then the financial aid office will tell you exactly what you’ll get. 100K isn’t chump change, at least according to the federal government, and the University of Illinois isn’t known for providing gobs aid merit-wise, but the process of determining the aid you’ll get is dependent on many more factors than the three you’ve listed, otherwise filling out FAFSA would be a snap. It isn’t.

Alright. Thanks! I guess ill just find out when I apply.

We had worse stats income and job wise but did not have another child in college. FA was 100% loans.

You can get an idea of what you can expect to get in the way of needs based grants and what your expected family contribution will be by filling out the FAFSA calculator on line. It is an estimate but from what I have heard, it is pretty accurate. Also, be sure to apply to FAFSA on January 1 or as soon as possible to that date. To some extent, the needs based money is first come, first serve. When the money runs out, there is no more to give regardless of your eligibility.
