^^To give the poor admissions office a break, haha.

Arg-I know-but still.......boo! :p

Thanks for your answers, guys. Wellesley only requires two essays right? The Common App one, and the Why Wellesley one (the supplement)?

^^Correct.

The website says that wellesley wants a letter of recommendation from the head of the applicants school. The freaking head of my school that I haven't talked to at all besides an occasional "good morning". Is it possible to substitute it with my counselor's recommendation instead?

^ Weird, I definitely did not need that. I know that my college counselor wrote one, but definitely not the head of school.

^ really??? Oh no-It's the exact same way with me! Plus i was gone for a year!! Oh no-oh no-oh no.

nelle, are you international (I think I remember from another thread that you are)? I think that's why they want it.

Per this page (#2 under application process): international entrance requirements

You can email the admissions office and ask, but I think the recommendation from the head of school is not so much "nelle is smart and funny and awesome" as "Berlin (or wherever) Prestigious Upper School follows such and such curriculum and grading policies and administers such and such national tests and blah blah blah"--stuff about how the school works. Again, please don't take my word for it because I'm not sure that that's what they are looking for, but my feeling is that that's what they're going for. I think it's the international version of the guidance counselor recommendation--and many students in the US don't know their guidance counselor any better than you know your head of school!

I agree. There's no way the admissions office expects you to have a close relationship with your principal/headmaster. Maybe you can ask a teacher you know well to give the headmaster some more information about you. You could also give the headmaster a resume or paragraph about you to give them a better idea of what to write.

From another thread response ... thought you might see it here sooner.

If "Scrippsies" are artsy and girlie, what are W women??

THX

^ Mmm... I'd say intelligent and confident

^ Mmm... I'd say intelligent and confident
+ strong, independent, ambitious

By the way... "artsy and girlie" should be in quotes... it was not my description.

Wellesley women are just bomb.

Haha but seriously, I was just relating what I had been told. You can read about some of the stereotypes other colleges have of Wellesley, but I would say "powerful" is another good word to add to the list.

Intelligent
Confident
Independent
Ambitious
Powerful
Dayum sexy <--(okay, so maybe my bias is interfering)

As for the counselors, don't worry about whether you don't have a "personal" relationship with your counselor or "head" of the school. Colleges ask for the size of each school (mine was over 600) and realize that from those numbers it's not possible for the counselors to know each candidate.

Still, there are measures you can take to improve your situation. Drop by the office more, ask "questions" and you'll get to know your counselor/etc person that way. When giving the counselor materials to write your rec, give them some info to work with (like your interests/goals). Most counselors are there just to offer the statistics on the school you attend, anyway. I had my IB Coordinator write my rec, since he was also my history teacher, so you might have other options.

Hi. I'm a prospective student who is living in Canada.

Is Canada considered as an international country?

I read that international students cannot apply to ED
and need a recommendation letter from the head of the school,
but my counselor did not mention anything.

Also, do I need Student Visa?

If anyone knows the answers, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks!!

Canada is considered as an international country, but I'm not sure if you need a Student Visa. The specifics you may need to check with the admissions office!

Wow. That was very quick. Thanks

I mailed admissions office a few weeks ago, but got no reply.
Should I call them? or is it because it's summer?

Thank you!

I would try calling, but perhaps you would wait until September when things pick up?

I will try that. Thx
and can I do SAT 2 in November and still apply to ED?

Call. It shouldn't matter that it's summer, and by then you might forget about it.

I saw plenty of tours the last few weeks when I was living on campus. They hire students to work there over the summer, and probably want to keep this week covered, even if it's between Summer sessions and research and orientation.

Admissions may have different hours, (check the website - currently the entire wellesley.edu is down for scheduled maintenance- today is the big down day. Not that I want to check my email.). Their typical hours are likely 8:30 to 4:30 on weekdays, and until noonish on Saturdays. I'd just call sometime Monday morning. I know some admissions booklets will tell you the last test you need to take.
