Hello, I am a CSU->UC transfer student and I got accepted to two UCs so far. I was wondering how do you calculate the “UC GPA/Units”… I heard this determines the GPA/Units that will carry over to the UC… But which courses count towards the UC GPA/Units? Would my upper division courses from my CSU be counted? For the courses that DO NOT count, does that mean they will be regarded as if I have never took them before and not be counted towards the UC GPA/Units?
Once you start at a new school, your GPA resets. You will be given unit credit for courses that do transfer. Courses that transfers are determined by specific UC since there is no CSU -> UC agreement, it must be done based on the school.
Thank you for the insight! So does this mean my GPA resets to a 4.0?? I was at a 3.41 when I left my CSU and plan on increasing it this semester before I transfer in the Fall. @pugzandhugz
No your GPA does not reset to 4.0
What he means is that each school only lists grades for that school. Technically, it will be empty transcript with transfer units that will be applied towards your graduation. The UC GPA/ units that were calculated on your UC application was for admissions purposes and it should list ALL colleges you have ever attended. Those grades do not get to be transferred over to your UC transcript, only the units will be counted.
In the end, if you attended a CSU and a UC alone (for college), you will have a transcript with GPA/units from the CSU school, a transcript with GPA/ units from the UC school. Your overall GPA will obviously have to count all the courses you took at the UC and CSU or any other college.
Hope this helped.
Your courses taken at CSU will count for subject credit, if the UC you transfer to considers them equivalent to its own courses when evaluating them (though, unlike for California community colleges, this generally is not done beforehand). However, your GPA at UC will be based only on courses taken at UC.
