need for a RESUME?????

hiyaa!!!!
okkkk i m just wondering. do we need a resume??? im doin my app online... so should i SEND in a resume seperately????

i always thought a resume is discourgaed... but is it???

thanks ppl

I didn't send one in, the thought hadn't even crossed my mind. But I'm sure it's hardly irregular to send one in.

i sent one in, and i had this discussion with many people, so let me tell you the pros.

if you have a good EC list, it lets you tell the college about what you do in "NHS" or "Volunteer Hospital Worker" or something, instead of just having that list of names. it lets them also you that youre motivated, and that you are into what you do.

it wont hurt you not to have one, i feel like in my case it helps me htough - i can tell them what im doing with my research, or what i did as a torah leader, etc.

I don't think you should send in an actual resume, but rather an activities/honors chart/table. Keep it in somewhat the same format as the Common App, just add more detailed descriptions.

It's not discouraged, (well maybe at places like Columbia and Stanford, but they have their own apps) especially with the character limits and lack of formatting on the Common App online.

IMO, better to use the CA format and explain/embellish your EC's (or anything else on your app) in the last open section.

Don't submit a long resume. They are just skimmed over, it's not worth all the effort you put into it.
