Lots of internationals looking for full scholarships to US schools. Get in line, and good luck!

There are some schools that give merit scholarships to internationals.

What is your major?

And are you only considering top/top schools? If so, those aren’t the ones who usually give merit.

What do you consider the “best US universities”? If they are the Ivy League schools, Stanford and MIT, these schools do NOT give merit aid at all. They give only need based aid which is largely based on your parents’ incomes in U.S. dollars.

Thumper is right.

And I don’t know what your stats are, but if you need a lot of merit money, you typically have to go down to mid-tiers or below to get int’l merit scholarships of any good size.

Stats from the OP (post #1 of this thread).

There are many international students with equally impressive stats who want to attend U.S. colleges. As an international student, you will be competing for admission with these students.

kamehameha -

Are you in the US now, or are you in another country? If you are in the US your own school’s college placement counselor is the one best able to help you with this. If you are outside the US, and your school’s college placement counselor doesn’t know anything about college admission in the US, then you need to read through everything at [EducationUSA | Study Abroad, Student Visa, University Fairs, College Applications and Study in the U.S. / America](http://www.educationusa.info/) After you have done that, make an appointment with the counselors at the advising center closest to your school. Those counselors are expert at helping international applicants find good places to study in the US.

What is the breakdown of your SAT I?

Thumper is right…you’ll be competing with other int’ls with top scores for admission at top schools .

You can try, but apply to some “back up” schools that will give you large merit for stats.

What is your major?

how much will your family pay?

In another thread you say that you want to go to MIT…MIT only gives NEED based scholarships. Are you low income with low assets?

What is your situation???

The op has chances threads for UCBerkeley, UCLA, MIT, Stanford, U of Chicago, Yale, Princeton and Harvard.

OP…if you are looking for aid based on your stats, I would suggest you look at schools where YOUR stats put you in the top 5% of applicants…and that OFFER merit aid to international students as well. MIT, Stanford, Yale, Harvard and Princeton do not offer merit aid at all.

The op has chances threads for UCBerkeley, UCLA, MIT, Stanford, U of Chicago, Yale, Princeton and Harvard.

The OP needs to better understand how merit and FA work in the US…especially for int’ls.

For publics like UCLA and UCB, an int’l student needs to expect to pay full-freight.

For the others, they would be hard to get accepted to, some are need-aware for int’ls, and any aid would be awarded AFTER the school thoroughly reviews that family’s income and assets.

It’s fine to apply to those privates and hope to get accepted and hope to get the needed aid, but it’s like winning the lottery…many, many high stats int’ls applying for a limited number of spots.

For back ups…you can apply to schools in your own country or to lower ranking schools that give int’l merit scholarships.
