I'm going to be taking the psat this october, and I want to get a 240 on it. As a sophomore, I had essentially no preparation and I got a 193. Currently, I can consistently get 100% on the math and miss maybe 1-2 on the reading, but I am very lacking in the grammar, missing up to 8 or 9. I have read the review books, but most of them have the same advice on things like idioms, parallelism, diction, and all that.

What would you guys recommend to improve my grammar score? I have come to believe that my grammar is simply lacking because I never learned much of it, so I have decided to just work with a school textbook and understand all the verb tenses and things that I never really learned. What else can I do to improve my PSAT score?

idk about barrons 2400. People say there are a lot of misprints and mistakes in that book so it might not be the most reliable. Just practice a lot of writing sections and you'll soon get the hang of it.

i agree with nooob. do a lot of practice, and keep track of the ways they trip you up. get a solid list of four or five reoccurring errors going. once you read a sentence and determine that there are no errors, quickly run through your list to make sure before going on to the next question. if youre a fast worker, this should work well.

Diana Hacker writes some excellent style manuals, which will include grammar rules. Review those instead of the test prep books. Grammar is truly something you should have been learning your whole life, but if you are really devoted to the task, you ought to be able to improve your understanding of grammar. You'll benefit in life, not just in testing, so it will be time well spent. Good luck!

I got a grammar book from my school, and I have noticed a great deal of improvement already. My problem was that I never learned a lot of this stuff in the first place.
