Need guidance

I also posted in the pre college issues forum, but i'm not sure which is the correct place to put this, so sorry if this isn't the place.

Hi, my name is Jacob and I'll be graduating high school this year at the age of 19. I went to public high school for 2 and 1/2 years, and failed nearly every class. I am currently enrolled in a charter school(options for youth), which is basically like being home schooled. I have just a few elective credits to complete, then I'll be able to receive my diploma. So here is my issue, my teacher gave me algebra 1, geometry, and an online geometry class, which she informed me would fulfill all 3 years of math credits. As far as I know, algebra 2 is a part of the a-g requirements, so I assume I will not be able to attend any type of university out of high school, and would like to know if i'm correct in this assumption. Secondly I would like to know if I should go through with my plans of attending community college afterwards, or If I should take algebra 2 before graduation and apply for a university, seeing as I am graduating 2 years later than I should have.

I have really ruined my high school grades and I'm really just looking forward to being done with it. I don't want the rest of my life to be a failure, and I really want to turn my life around. I dream of going to a top university, and want to prove to myself that I can land my dream job. I just want to know if i'm out of my mind, or if I really can work my ass off and transfer into a top university. I am willing to do WHATEVER it takes, and I'm ready to dedicate every waking moment to my studies and extra curricular activities. If it's possible, please guide me in the right direction, because I really am confused.

Sorry if i'm asking a lot of questions, and I look forward to any/all replies.

I got kicked out of high school, went to a continuation school and then charter school after that. If your planning on transferring to school your high school stats don’t really matter. Transferring to college as a junior saves money and you can get into schools you could not have got into from high school. I signed a TAG agreement which means if my GPA is above 3.2 after this semester, I can go to UC Santa Barbara if I want. No way could I have got there without community college. I don’t know what your interests are, but I have changed my intended major like 4 or 5 times. I found that the sites princetonreview.com and bigfuture.collegeboard.org are a good way to find majors. CaliforniaVirtualCampus.com is a good source of classes offered online, and I found Foothill College and Coastline Community Colleges there. Fill out a FAFSA at FAFSA.gov for financial aid and fee waivers. You can start at community college with a placement test even if you have not graduated yet. Good Luck

@dodgers83 Thank you so much for your reply, it made me feel better to know i’m not the only one who has been in a similar situation. I just talked to my teacher today, and I’m also missing foreign language credits, so off to community college I go ! I suppose its a blessing in disguise.

Jacob you can turn a new leaf in your life when you start CC. Don’t make the same mistakes that you made in high school. Many have started afresh in CC and then transferred to great schools including Ivy Leagues.
I know this that CCs have agreements with 4-year colleges and universities where their students can easily transfer to after completing an Associate’s degree. So check with your CC whether it has any such agreement. Even if its doesn’t just imagine this, you do 60 credits from CC and majority of your grades are A with a few Bs and nothing else. And then you do awesome on your SATs. Do you think any school will be able to stop you from getting in?
All the very best!
