thanks

The W-2 is a tax form that you get from your US employer. If you never had a job in the US (e.g. because you don’t live in the US), you don’t have one.

so… for internationals, the only legal documents are the income tax statements from parents’s employers, right?

^plus a bank balance certificate would be better.

Well, as far as I understand, this IDOC service is for us students only…
I have sent my tax statements and bank statements directly to the financial aid offices of the colleges
can anyone confirm this?

Colleges have to pay extra for IDOC services, so many are not using it. International students may be asked to submit documents to IDOC if the institution uses IDOC and the CSS Profile for international students.

Well as for example Stanford:
For domestic students, they require to send the documents through IDOC.
For internationals, they don’t mention anything about IDOC.
see: [Applying for Aid : Stanford University](http://www.stanford.edu/dept/finaid/undergrad/apply/index.html)
The same goes for Yale, as far as i can see

same thing here germanviet… i have sent my income statements to the financial aid office of the respective colleges, but i just got an email from collegeboard to sign up for IDOC. So, do we really have to send documents again through IDOC? After skimming the requirements, I’ll end up sending statements of “not attaching W-2 and federal tax 2009” which they have for internationals. Are they really necessary?

You will only get a notification about IDOC if one of the colleges you sent the CSS Profile to requested it. You can check with the college to be sure, but you probably have to submit documents to IDOC.

germanviet, every college sets their own procedures. Some colleges do use IDOC for international financial aid applicants. See for example Duke or Harvey Mudd.

[Financial Aid Deadlines](Applying for Need-Based Financial Aid | Admission and Financial Aid | Harvey Mudd College)

do we really need the bank statements? i didn’t send them…is that okay?

bumppppppppppp

I got the IDOC email yesterday and shortly after I got one from Mt Holyoke College saying that they didn’t anticipate the IDOC email would get sent to international students. They said to ignore it unless one of my other colleges requested information via IDOC, but this is the first I’ve seen of IDOC at all.

I think maybe it was sent to all applicants in error and maybe wasn’t meant to go to international students??

Yeah, I believe, that every CSS Profile user gets this mail, but as we have all different tax system, it wouldn’t be a good idea to send them to IDOC.
I don’t know much about CSS, but I believe, collegeboard centrally processes all the documents, so that all the colleges one student applies to don’t have to do the work

The tax system doesn’t really matter. What IDOC does is scan your documents and make electronic copies available to colleges, so that the colleges don’t have to file and store the documents themselves.

so are u international guys submitting the docs via IDOC? or just ignore it?
