So, I took a basically mandatory summer school class for AP Chemistry. We just did the first 6 chapters of the AP book, and we start on the 7th during the year. On the transcript the class will be called Chem 1/2 for the summer. Anyways 2/3 of the class got As 1/3 got Bs, 2 got Cs. I got a B and he gave us the option of either keeping our grade or auditing the class and not getting credit for the class, but also not getting a B.

I'm looking at middle UCs.

So should I

A. Keep the B and get the credit.

or

B. Audit the class and not get the B or credit.

I need to know in 24 hours, what would be the best bet for me?

wow.. your ap chem class requires you to take a class over the summer? :\

IDK. will it drop ur GPA alot? Also, if you cancel the class, can you still do AP chem?

Keep it. B's really aren't much of a big deal.

Why do you need credit for this class? You probably have more credits than you need, so just audit the class (especially if you're in the running for the valedictorian). I'm assuming you mean just audit the summer class and not the entire year of AP Chem btw.

yeah if i still audit the class i can stil take ap chem

Are you serious? Wow, since when is a B failing? This is very sad.

if it will significantly decrease your GPA then drop it, otherwise keep it. YOu don't want those hours going to waste!

no, i am just a 3.5 student, no valedictorian or anything. and i am not saying bs are bad. but is it bettr to take a class and get a b on it, or audit it and it would be like i didnt take the class, but i will be prepared for the class because i took it. what would be better? thanks everyone, i'm still not sure yet

benefits of dropping:
No decrease in GPA
No one will ever know

cons of dropping:
You lose some hours?

pros of keeping:
You keep hours

Cons of keeping:
Your GPA could drop

If you're gonna get credit from AP chem, then it's kinda pointless to keep the CC credit.

So far I am auditing it.

Basically you all seem confused.

Would I rather have a:

A. 3.47 GPA with 5 extra credits and Chem 1/2 as a course listed under summer.

Or

B. 3.5 GPA with a waste of a class, but really not a waste because on the first day of school there is a test on all that we learned during the summer.

What's better? Especially for the UC system.

There really isn't too much of a difference in either option. A 3.47 and a 3.5 aren't that different. Also, colleges like to see you were still doing things in the summer and if you audit it, colleges will basically see that you didn't do anything and wasted your summer away.

right now i am not quite sure, probably gonna audit, can i have some for input? i think i can still change it.

I second Frutiaspice now.

Well I take back what I said. I just read that you're shooting for the middle UCs (I'm guessing like UCSD, UCB, UCSB?). Since you're not shooting for HYPSM or anything, I say keep the B.

Aren't the UC's stat driven? A B could hurt. Depends if your GPA and SATs could hold up I guess.
