Hey everyone!
I’m a Freshman California Community College student taking 16 units, four of which to French 1. I’m taking French because in high school, I had only taken one year of language, American Sign Language, and my college doesn’t offer the course. On Mondays and Wednesdays, I’m at school from 10am to 8pm, due to French. My French class starts at 6 and goes to 7:50pm…and is my third class of the day. My second class ends at 2:15pm. As you can see, my French class takes up a ton of my day. Right now, I’m at 29.4 completed units, because of AP credits (passed eight in HS).
Here’s my question: I’m already fluent in three languages; English, Hebrew, and American Sign Language (even though I only took one year in HS). If I don’t drop French, there’s a chance I’ll apply to the UCs this year (because technically, I’m a sophomore). But if I do decide to drop French, I can take a gap year next year while applying to the UCs, and travel the world (I’ve been blessed with an amazing job, which pays a lot, so I could definitely afford it). But the trick is, if I drop French, I will have to pass the Hebrew SAT Subject exam (can I even take the exam while in college?!).
What are your thoughts/opinions? Is it worth dropping French? If I do, I’ll take another class. This other class would be on Tuesdays and Thursdays, days where I only take one class. I’d be done with school 2:15 everyday, instead of 8pm on Mondays and Wednesdays and 11:15am on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Thank you, all, so much.
P.S. I’m a political science major, and along with French, I’m taking International Relations, American Government, and Western Civilization. My American Government prof told me today that I’d get an A in his class, and asked me if I “truly need to buy the textbook?” (I took AP Govt in HS). French is my hardest class, and I think I’m at risk for a B.
