I need to go to a boarding school this incoming year; yes I know I am extremley late but my parents wouldnt go over anything until now. Are there any schoools still open for next year? Also I was wondering if anyone knows about the bronte college of canada.

Go to the SSAT website and click on the SCCA list ("SCCA" stands for "Schools Currently Considering Applicants"). Then you can search schools by state and enrollment date.

i THINK nmh has rolling admission

But they're full. Trust me, I know. I called today.

I heard the Gunnery, in Connecticut, has openings for next year.

That school is full too lol.

Someone on this board was applying to Berkshire within the last month. Another was applying to Loomis. You can also try Williston Northampton. If you are a girl, look into Emma Willard, Miss Porters School and Westover. If a boy, look at Avon Old Farms, Salisbury and Trinity Pawling. If your family can afford an educational consultant who specializes in secondary school placement (not therapeutic), such a person could save you time.

In the June letter from the Blair Headmaster, he wrote " Our admissions season has long been completed, but then never seems to be fully over as some applicant comes to us with strong credentials and a good story." So if you have strong credentials and a good story you might try Blair. Of course that was June and this is mid-July.

When you call schools, be sure to emphasize your strengths and any talents you might bring to the community.

Good luck!

A lot of people wait till their sophomore yr to go away. How imperitive is it to leave now (rather than in a year)?

Blair-No room and little chance of movement
Williston Northampton- I think there's room
Salisbury- There's openings there
Berkshire- There might be openings
Loomis Chaffee- Definitely no room

Try some schools outside the New England. I'm sure they have openings there. Look at places such as Episcopal or Baylor or McCallie. They are pretty good schools.

The Gunnery is a great place to board, small, nurturing staff and good college matriculation...check it out...

I think the Gunnery is full for boys, not for girls. I'll post later as to whether they have openings, since I'm calling today.

I will be a junior and I have to go away. I don't want a very known school, just a school with good academics. Is the hoosac school in upstate newyork any good?

Sorry, I don't know anything about Hoosac.

Check out Williston Northampton. They have good academics and still have space. I'm not sure if it still has space, but Millbrook is in New York, so that might be worth checking out.

Definitely look at Williston. To add onto what MDog said, the school is also a very friendly, nurturing place. It also offers very good athletics.

As for Millbrook, it has a beautiful campus, and is decent to good academically. It is near the New York/Massachusetts borderline in a scenic and rather remote area.

Millbrook also has a zoo, if you are interested in that kind of stuff.

I would say the academics (and athletics) at Williston are, at best, average; it is not even on the radar for most strong students consider. It is, however, in western Mass, not far from Northampton.

I would say the academics at Millbrook are average, and the zoo smells like monkey poo. Not that zoos can be expected to smell to excellent, but, it was a turn off for me.

Have you checked into Cheshire or Suffield Academies?

well I am looking at verde valley school. but honestly these schools are closed for finacial aid I belive and too expensive for me to go to.
