My daughters has applied to BU and was accepted to BC early action, with her chosen major being business. My question is this. With all things being the same, (costs, fin-aid), which of the two are better and why? Please let me know about academics, attitude, dorms, location in Boston, student life sports and so on. I will also post this thread in the BC section. Thanks

BC and BU are VERY different environments...both being good schools. BC is suburban. BU is URBAN. DS tells me that BC is more conservative than BU. BU guarantees housing for four years. BC requires that you move off campus one year (at least they used to). No football at BU, football at BC. In fact, in general, I think the sports scene at BC is more prevalent than at BU (except for hockey). BU has many fine professional and graduate programs in addition to the undergrad school. BC has less of this. DS LOVES BU (he really wanted an urban school). He honestly hates the location of BC.

Our s is a Freshman at BU. He was originally interested in BC so we visited twice. Both are excellent schools with BC probably a better fit for a serious jock type. The lack of football at BU is disappointing. BU is very strict about the dorms while BC is considered a heavy drinking environment. Not that "partying" doesn't take place at any school but BU is notoriously serious about keeping the dorms a more studious environmnet. Possibly too strict in this regard.I wasn't as impressed with BC, found the campus a littel "dull". We had great reservations about the urban setting at BU but he picked West campus to live on and the dorms there have more of a campus feel with lots more green space, overlooking the fields, and a brief walk to the new Student Village and Fitness Ctrs. He has an outstanding view of the River. BU felt a little more sophisticated than BC in terms of the professors and courses. Still, BC is well thought of and you can't go wrong wth either.

Just reread your post and noted the business interest. If you revisit BU try and arrnge a specific tour of the School of Business. At least get someone there to let you see the inside lobby areas. I couldn't believe how absolutely beautiful that building was inside. Each "college" within BU has its own smaller community but the setting and size of the business school may make it more so than the other colleges. There were pods for studying, amazing art and artifacts, and unique classromms built for smaller interactive classes. Our s is in the College of Arts and Scences but we took a tour of the Business school during Parents weekend.
