Hi
Son is trying to decide between Chapman and UCSB.
Chapman Pro:
- Chapman seems to have a good business program.
- Got $34k/yr Presidential award. This is nice.
- In SoCal and LA area (son really loves to go to SoCal)
- Better class sizes?
- Better access to professors?
- Close to LA (so better internships)?
Chapman cons (compared to UCSB Pre-Econ):
- Lower ranked
- Expensive (even after the scholarship)
- Job prospects post graduation. Iffy? don’t know.
- Academic rigor?
- Social life?
Would really love to hear any opinions on job prospects, campus recruitment, internships etc., @ Chapman.
Thanks.
I can’t speak to UCSB, but I (a parent) know a number of students who go to Chapman that are extremely happy with the program. We live 10 minutes away. Personal relationships with professors have been mentioned by a number of them. Chapman is not really “close” to LA (probably about 60 minutes without traffic), but it is close to Irvine and Costa Mesa, both of which have growing business communities. I would spend some time googling Orange County/Irvine business community or look on other job sites, etc. to see whether the types of internships you are interested in. Chapman had an extremely effective president for many years who transformed the campus and has been responsible for a huge, huge increase in both reputation and donor contributions. I would think that it would be an entirely different experience going to a state school and Chapman - kind of apples and oranges. Have you visited?
