I've been accepted to Berkeley (out of state) and NYU (Tisch), but I'm sort of having trouble choosing. Costwise, nyu is not at all affordable - even with the tisch scholarship my parents could not pay so much. However, I'd be in the Tisch Dramatic Writing Program, and I'm sure I would have excellent writing opportunities there for screenwriting/playwrighting. I was wondering if berkeley would provide me with the same writing opportunities - at nyu I think I would have gotten to explore screenwriting and playwrighting and pick either concentration; eventually I had even hoped to pursue an mfa in playwrighting if I was talented and interested enough to get there, so I really want the opportunity to be involved in various writing venues at the undergrad level, and to really develop my writing. I think I'm headed for Berkeley, but was wondering, can berkeley give me what I'm looking for? Thanks a bunch !

pinkearmuffs,

Just a thought. If you are thinking in the terms of graduate school. It might be worth your while to read about the programs you want to attend and make sure that Berkeley will properly prepare you for that.

You could always ask Berkeley what their statistics are for get students into graduate programs. If you feel that NYU has a lot of oppportunties, perhaps it would be worthwhile to do a program there at a graduate level.

Thanks klri. Does anyone else have any advice ? Id really appreciate it !! : ]

What would be your major at Berkeley? I know something about the English department--that's it. But, in general, Berkeley is arguably the highest ranked public university in the country. You can't go wrong in that respect. I know so many people who have great stats (in state) and would NEVER get into Berkeley--it's a huge honor to be accepted there.

mtmommy, I would like to do an english major.

OK, I'll PM you.
