<p>I think that method changes from school to school, so you're better off asking your counselor. However, if you took most of the hardest classes, it's usually about .3 above your unweighted. So that'd be a rough estimate.</p>
<p>The method does differ from school to school. Sometimes nonacademic classes are omitted. Sometimes honors or AP get another .5, sometimes another 1.0, and sometimes honors gets a 1.0 boost and AP gets 2 points added. And these are just the permutations I've heard of ...</p>
<p>I have heard of colleges that calculate GPA their own way and use that. I don't know this from them themselves, but from what people have said on CC.</p>
<p>The basic importance of weighted GPA is that it determines your class rank. It can't be used to compare you directly to people at a different school.</p>
