Need help choosing a computer science school in New Jersey!

I was accepted into:

  • University of Pittsburgh
  • Stevens Institute of technology
  • Rutgers University (New Brunswick)
  • New Jersey Institute of Technology

I have narrowed it down to Rutgers, Stevens and NJIT, however it is a really hard choice. All 3 of them are ranked high for computer science, they are all reputable schools in somewhat decent locations and all have their ups and downs.

I am looking for a good social experience. I want to meet new people, do fun things, but above ALL, I want a good computer science program, along with a good track after college.

Any info/tips/comments/suggestions are greatly appreciated!

PS - NJIT and Rutgers is VERY cheap compared to stevens. I almost got a full ride to rutgers and njit. Stevens on the other hand Is roughly 20-25g a year (with room and board). I will be dorming.

Rutgers full ride seems like the obvious choice.

I agree with ucbalumnus. Love the school that loves you back. Graduating from a good school with low debt is a very good thing. Congrats!

I agree…go with Rutgers.

Go with Rutgers.

This is REALLY easy. Rutgers.

I don’t think it’s a slam dunk for Rutgers. I’d say it’s between Rutgers and NJIT. I’m guessing Rutgers, like most state flagships, will have very large classes. I transferred out of a state flagship for that exact reason. Going from classes of 400 to a school where the max class size was about 60 made all the difference in the world.

@Simba9 is right. I missed the almost full ride to NJIT. Have you visited both?

If class size is a concern, check the online class schedule at each school. Do not assume.

Does Rutgers University have full ride for students from other states?

I’m from NJ, Rutgers all the way. Don’t go to school in Newark. Stevens is a better school than NJIT and has a vastly better location but Stevens is a buzz kill socially. NJIT is 75% male like Stevens.

If social life is important, Rutgers is overwhelming social.

Rutgers offers scholarships up to $26,300 per year.

The amount of the largest scholarship is currently approximately a full ride for in-state students, but about 91% of tuition + mandatory fees for out-of-state students.

I’d pick Stevens over Rutgers. Stevens is the better school.

But why on earth are you discounting Pittsburgh?? You’re doing yourself a great disservice by wanting to stay in New Jersey. So many better options out there.
