Need Help Choosing a Major

As many of you know, i am trying to get into the University of Illinois at Chicago. I think that i asked this already but i can't remember. I am a transfer student and i need to choose a field of study. I want something in LAS but i want a very non-competitive degree to shoot for. It doesn't really matter what i get. I want political science the most but it may be too hard to get into, so here are some others that i could also try for.

Political Science
Anthropology
English
History
Sociology
Criminal Justice(would this help for law school?)

Also, for the transfer requirements, it says that i need to have completed a course or in the progress of completing a course in physical science, when I apply, but i won't be able to take that until the summer. I am trying to transfer for the fall, will try shoot me down because of this? It is the only class that i don't have the requirement for yet.

What are the reasons for you not wanting a competitive degree, are you planning on med or law school?

I want to go to law school. If i get a law degree, then it doesn't really matter what major i had, just as long as it is something that helps me along a little. Right now, i am more concerned about getting into a school. If i study some kind of social science, that should be fine. I just want the one that will give me the best chance of getting in somewhere.

Here is some good news. I applied to UIUC online a few weeks ago but the application is exactly the same for UIC and all my info is already filled in. I just need a major, please...please.

Here is some bad news. The only math class that will transfer from my current school to UIC is Calculus II or III. Jack doesn't take calculus. Why is there always a problem?

If political science is your field of interest, I would suggest history--can't understand politics without it. It's also a great major for law school--you'll learn lots of writing and research skills.

I went to law school. Yes, there were plenty of folks who were political science majors, but plenty of all sorts of others as well. I would say pick what you are most interested in studying.

Anything that requires writing and research will be helpful. Probably the most useful thing I did was debate in college. Perhaps you should check into the coursework for a speech/communications type major and see if this appeals. Looking at your list, besides pol sci, history would probably prepare you best.

But still, go with what you are willing to take.

BTW why would political science be hard to get into? Do they actually limit the number of people in each major?

Well, i had problems trying to get into political science at UIUC. I guess that a lot of people want to get into political science.

However, after looking at what i would need to do to transfer to UIC in the fall, i am starting to think i might wait a semester. I would have to do about 15 hours over the summer and get a lot of stuff figured out in the next couple of weeks and it just feels like too much. I am not really in a rush to get out of college, so i will probably just hang back for a few more months.
