I know we can’t really choose our dorms but I believe we can put down our preferences? I’m not really sure how housing apps work. However, I’ve been looking at the freshman housing options and I was confused as to which would be the best. I have a roommate that I want to request on my app so which dorm would provide the best experience? Any advice is helpful, thanks!
In the housing lottery for 2nd year, you can put down preferences, and can turn down an offer if you don’t get housing you want As of a couple years ago, you could not put down dorm preferences for a 1st year.
Oh okay so you don’t even put what you would like. It’s just completely random? And do you still get to choose your roommate for sure?
As a parent, my info is a couple years old. As of that time, you would be given your roommate choice as long as each of you put down the same person on their forms. For others, the housing office asked a few basic questions to match roommates, such as whether you are more of a late night or morning person.
You can apply for a residential college. Otherwise, you are assigned randomly as first years. That is for fairness reasons because some residence halls are newer and nicer than others, but I believe everyone pays the same price as first years.
The vast majority of first year rooms are double occupancy. Some of the small singles are now being converted to doubles by knocking out walls, as part of a renovation project.
