Ok, so I know I am posting this in the Indiana University Bloomington forum so I'm probably going to get answers mostly telling me to go to IU, But! I would really like if people would be willing to read this and give me objective answers based on the information I am about to provide...
So I would like to start by saying that I am leaning towards going to IU more than Purdue. I visited both campuses and IU's was much prettier and nicer than Purdue's. I am planning on majoring in Psychology and I got into both school's Psychology programs. So that's definitely something I am interested in knowing is which school do you think I would get a better education at based on my major. Next thing is that I am interested in knowing which university has a better social life to it. I would say I'm a fun person and I definitely want to have a good time next year. So it'd be great if you guys could let me know in your opinion which place has a better social life. Also I am really interested in doing Mock Trial next year. I did it in high school and really enjoyed it. I know IU has a Mock Trial program and I am not sure about Purdue. Anything anyone knows about either programs would be very helpful.
Finally it would be awesome if you guys could just through out reasons why you think one or the other school is a better school. I am having such a difficult time choosing between the two. Both are such great schools and have really good reputations. So I really need your help! Thanks for taking the time to read and answer!

I have three siblings going to Purdue, and I am personally leaning towards IU, so I’ll try to give you my perspective:

IU is typically ranked highly in psychology, and it is quite highly regarded. I have never heard mention of Purdue’s psychology department, but you might have more opportunities for more clinical research at Purdue’s tech-focused campus.

IU wins in social scene hands down. Purdue is nice and all, but IU’s mix of culture and people will keep you engaged and interested.

2a. In terms of campus dining though, Purdue has IU beat completely. Purdue’s dining halls are absolutely incredible.

The real difference I see is that IU has a better reputation, but it is not considered as technical. Psychiatry would probably be Purdue’s strong suit. Both schools are great, so you really can’t go wrong.

Am I able to get into UIC or DePaul? I have a 2.4 cumulative gpa. I haven’t taken the ACT yet.

ellie, I’m sure that Purdue has a good program but I can not see it looking as good on a post graduate resume of any type as one from IU. This is not meant to be biased in anyway but IU’s school of psychological and brain sciences is very well respected among academics. I am a student and about to graduate with a B.S. in Psychology and I can directly compare the two programs. Simply put IU has a stronger program and is very well respected. I was actually very surprised to hear this after being in the program after 2 years but IU is well regarded among all programs from Ph.D. schools to MSW programs. Purdue has a program but it is not nearly as known or respected as IU’s is. IU also has history. One of the founding members of the American Psychological Association, William Lowe Bryan founded the school at IU and B.F. Skinner was head of the department at one time. Famous social psychologists also hail from IU. Beyond just value of the degree the program itself is very diverse. There are soooo many upper level psychology classes that are interesting and you actually want to go to class for, many of my psych friends often can’t decide which classes they want to take. If you really want a broad education in psychology then IU has the right program. I’m not putting Purdue down at all, I’m sure they have a good program as well, but it is not as well respected, storied, or as personally tailored as IU’s. Let the facts convince you on which has the better program.

ALL that said, I am a firm believer that what matters more than the name on your diploma is your personal credentials. If Purdue is a better fit for you as a school and environment, go to Purdue and get your degree from there, you picked two great schools and can’t go wrong.

Thank you both for answering my questions! I think I am most likely going to IU. I really liked what I heard from both of you about the psychology program there. And the type of education that I am going to get matters the most to me. Also I really felt more at home on IU’s campus so I think that I can more confidently say that IU is the school for me!
