Ok, I'm gonna get a laptop this week and can't decide between the two models. I was sold on a PC but I have been considering a Mac a lot lately. These are the two models:

HP Pavilion dv6-6140us Entertainment Notebook PC (Silver): Computer & Accessories

Apple MacBook Pro - Buy MacBook Pro notebook computers - Apple Store (U.S.)

I am considering the 13.3 MacBook Pro by the way. Anyways my major is Pharmacy and I need a laptop to last me 6 years. I need something dependable. Something that won't get slow, and will run the same in 6 years time. I'm leaning toward the MacBook Pro because of the recent OS X Lion release. Also because Windows is coming out with Windows 8 or whatever they will call it in late 2011 or in 2012, which will make my HP outdated very quickly.

Which laptop do you guys think will be better in the long haul?

So I had a Dell from January of last year but it recently got a virus so bad that Geek Squad wouldn’t even take it in. Since I’m going into my freshman year I figured I would need a new computer and it would be easier than paying to fix my dell. So I really wanted the Macbook Pro but my parents told me it was irresponsible to spend all of my money when I could get a PC for cheaper. I listened and bought the HP DV6 from Best Buy… it was OK… I wasn’t particularly impressed with anything and I wasn’t satisfied considering how much money I had spent. I returned it and purchased an Open Box MacBook Pro 13" and I LOVE IT. I never had an Apple before, but it’s just a sleeker and easier experience in my opinion. The computer battery alone amazes me - about 5 or 6 hours compared to the HP and Dell which got maybe 3. I don’t know much about computers, but I think the MacBook Pro is worth it… it also depends on if your school’s pharmacy program supports Mac. Hope this helps. :)

Geek Squad is ■■■■■■■■.
It doesn’t matter how “bad” a virus you get. If you wipe your drives and reinstall the os, your computer is fixed. Its pretty much the only guaranteed way to get rid of a virus, which you probably would not have gotten in the first place if you practiced smarter computer usage.

Unless of course the virus takes advantage of design flaws/“innovations” such as steve job’s irremovable battery.
