Need Help. Colleges with Good Fin. Aid

Hey guys, I need some help finding a few colleges that have a good business program but also good financial aid to out of state students.

Currently, I'm planning on going to a community college back in NJ for a year to raise my GPA after a terrible freshmen year at Purdue. I DID NOT GET KICKED OUT OF PURDUE. The decision was made since I couldn't apply to Krannert during my whole time at Purdue due to admissions reasons. So, I need some help with a list of colleges that have a good business program and good financial aid. I prefer a bigger school also that is D-I since I like sports.

Hopefully I will be able to raise my GPA which is horrendous to at least a 2.5-3.0 by Spring 2010. Be realistic please and don't say that I have no chance to any school. There's always that minimum criteria that colleges have and I know this quite well. Thanks.

Yes, but looing for aid as an OOS student with low stats is what makes this very, very difficult. Something in your home state will probably be most realistic.

Agreed with hmom5. In this economy, everyone is holding on tight to their purse strings, and that includes schools. Plus, with so many more students applying for aid, the stakes have gotten that much higher.

That’s true… Personally I don’t want to go to any of my state colleges, they either blow or I hate them. I personally hate Rutgers with a passion…

OOS schools are supported by the people who live in that state so the aid is, for the most part, limited to in-state students unless you have something the school really wants. Having a horrendous GPA you hope to raise to a 2.5 means you need to look at something else. If in-state schools don’t do anything for you maybe you should consider the military as a way to pay for school.

Well the military is something to look at but my brother is currently deploying to Afghanistan tomorrow. Weird. But I don’t personally feel as thought I will be suited towards the military.

Good luck to your brother!

A transferring, OOS student looking for fin aid w/lesser grades. That’s tough.

I saved a list of schools that someone awile ago mentioned had good merit for transfers: University of Rochester, University of Michigan, Tulane University, University of Miami (and possibly Georgia Tech).

Also check meritaid dot com, click “View the Directory”, and then look up various colleges to see if they have transfer aid and how to get it. Just remember, a lot of them WON’T. For the ones that do, most require you to maintain a high GPA or join Phi Theta Kappa before transferring.

Bring up your grades really high in com college (try to give up other interests) so you can qualify for any of these.

To get into the schools nov9th listed, OP would have to raise his grades DRAMATICALLY. U of M, Tulane, Rochester – these are all selective, highly respected universities.

Forget this. My bad. Had a meeting with Krannert’s Assistant Director and I will be given a chance to do well. I will be staying at Purdue. Sorry about this thread everyone!
