i'm doing fine in all sections of sat except critical reading i have 800 math, 700 writing 560 critical reading please help
how did you improve in CR? I am not familiar with the vocab words and such cuz i was born and raised in ALbania? What are some methods or tactics that will help improve score

practice with tests from college board (only), and if time is not a factor.....read like your ass is on fire.......if it is...then memorize vocab.......a lot of vocab...but start with the underground guide.....it's easier for getting use to the process... since it's kinda amusing....strange....but amusing

ilovebusiness--it seems really awkward if u get 800, 700 and 560. Suppose if it was 680, 620 and 560 it wouldn't look that wierd (not better anyway!). So, u gotta do sth w/ CR!

I support raincafe. But I really don't think Underground guide up ur scoer, is a good choice--after I've read the whole stuff I felt like I'm lost! Well, if u have enough time before SAT u should try it out since it's really amusing and soothing. At times, u'll forget that u r reading a study guide! In ur high school, take the honors level English and give most attention in that class. Talk w/ ur english teacher about this. They r supposed to have some resources. (but don't expect her to help u about pacing) memorize vocab not becoz u need to! (I mean like u just need to be able to identify the meaning of a word and u'll be fine) But whenever u'll see a hard word that u've memorized it'll give u a sense of accomplishment & u'll be thinking that ur smart! And it really is imp to be refreshed and optimistic while sitting in a room for some 4 hours.

lol, i raied my CR from 630 to 750, w/o any prep...i think i just had abad day first time and a good day the second time. CR is definitely one the the most important scores....it shows how well u read, which is an essential skill in college. 560 is unacceptable, at least wtih a 800M and 700W. Take CB, and memorize Barron's Vocab! Good luck, and just make sure u try to break 700 in all sections..

Haha I'm just like you. I got a 80 on math, 70 on writing and 57 on reading for the PSAT (I'm a sophomore and I haven't taken the SAT yet)

Does anyone think reading magazines like The Economist and newspapers like The New Yorker help??

Yes, yes, YES magazines help, especially of that caliber. Also read something like Scientific American every once in a while; the technical nature pretty much requires that you pay attention and analyze what you're reading, which is a key aspect of the CR portion of the test. Old books are good too. Just read a lot and you'll improve. Be sure to look up words you don't know as well (dictionary.com word of the day emails are good for that too).

So they have to be of that caliber, like you said, silentsailor? They can't be just any book like Harry Potter?

how would you go about reading it? read it for fun, annotate, analyze...?

either way, i'm subscribing to the new york times. they have quite a few interesting articles. :)

shrubber: ...do NOT keep rereading harry potter books for sat prep xD. Read count of monte crisco (or however u spell it)

Scientific American in my mind is best for CR. Always read the opinions section. My score went from a 690 to a 760 to an 800.
