Need help deciding between UofM and Brown

I was accepted to both Brown and UofM as a Ross Pre-Admit, and I am looking to go into finance/wall street jobs after graduation (probably investment banking). There are definitely pros and cons to both schools but I’m really having a tough time deciding between the two, as I love both schools a lot and I’m sure I’d be happy at both.

I am OOS at Michigan and cost is not much of a factor in the decision.

Any advice??

Well, you see, I will not be going to Brown, but I have a strong choice of going to Michigan, so the choice is clear!

But seriously, Michigan is great–if you’re huge on prestige, perhaps going for the Ivy is the choice. However, educationally, they are both great. Hope to see you in Ann Arbor!

One of the best aspects of Michigan is Ann Arbor. Amazing town. If you want to go to Wall Street (sigh), Ross would be a better bet.

UM would be the practical choice. Brown would be the intellectual/cerebral choice. In general, Brown students are there for their intellectual curiosity. Ross students are there as a means to an end.

“In general, Brown students are there for their intellectual curiosity. Ross students are there as a means to an end.”

While that is true brantly, there is a lot more to Michigan than Ross. As a student body, Michigan tends to be intellectual/cerebral, particularly LSA students. For those who are so inclined, double majoring in Business and say Mathematics or History or Political Science etc…is certainly possible. It may take one extra semester, but if having an intellectually stimulating experience is the goal, Michigan can more than deliver.

^^^This student is a Ross preadmit. That’s why I compared Brown to Ross. And I said, “in general.” Someone looking for an intellectual experience would not choose Ross over Brown. They attract very different types of students.

Go to the school where you feel you have a better “fit”. Ross is more tailored for your career, but Brown is an Ivy, and Ivies get plenty of attention from Wall Street. Your GPA will be inflated at either school, so getting that target 3.7+ will not be too bad at either school. The two schools, academics aside, are very different.
