I'm confused. I don't know where I want to go to school or what I want to major in. I love history, but I want a job in 4 years. I'm thinking about a business major. I've been accepted to Elon, Uinversity of South Carolina and College of Charleston. I like the big time sports and overall college experience I believe SC has; I love the city of Charleston and Elon seems like a real up and coming school. Any and all thoughts would be appreciated.

(sorry for the double posting, I just realized I posted in the wrong section)

We looked at South Carolina and really liked it. The horseshoe part is beautiful and on the whole the campus is very nice. The rec center/pool was fantastic. We were there in the summer and the students/staff we met were all very nice. Football is king, but I think their baseball and soccer teams are usually very good also. It seems like a school on the rise. You probably really can't go wrong with any of these schools. Good luck!

hmm, my sister went to CofC and absolutely loved it.
i'm pretty sure she got a decent education because she majored in german and business and now lives in germany for good.

meco, are you a SC resident?
S1 was accepted at USC at few years ago. We vsiited and were very impressed would have been very happy for him to attend there if he had chosen it. He eventually decided on a major not offered by USC so stayed instate (NC) for college. Isn't the International Business program at USC highly regarded?

SC - love the sports, but the city is VERY dangerous. I'm from the south - wasn't even allowed to consider USC, even though I've had family members graduate from the University. USC graduates mainly stay in Columbia or DC. It does have a great international business program I believe

Elon - beautiful campus, fantastic reputation, really nice size - not too big, not too small. It's outside of Burlington - not exactly the most happening town in the world - but very close to Duke, Chapel Hill, UNCG, NCState. If you want to do an internship, you will have to travel 20 minutes to Greensboro, 45 minutes to Raleigh/Durham, use the summers to intern, or do a semester work internship. Greek life is big. Business is a popular major, they also have a MBA program.

C of C - beautiful campus near BEACH (best feature in my opinion!), a little bit of a crime problem but if you stay on or near campus you are sitting pretty. Reputation has gone down over the years and retention rate is not the greatest, but the alum are great. I don't know anything about the business program.

i'm sorry azdann, but i'm going to have to disagree with you about USC being dangerous. I live in columbia, and it isn't dangerous at all. sure columbia has a slight problem with the homeless, but columbia isn't any worse than any other medium sized city.

A lot of this crime happens at the Five Points (where a lot of college students hang out). You have to be careful in any city of course, but in Columbia - a little more so. Almost everyone I know who went to the University has a story about crime happening to them or someone they know - and all the stories are pretty alarming.

Now, I love the campus - and the history of the city is amazing - and don't even get me started about the sports - I just wasn't allowed to apply there for school - specifically because of the crime, how close it happens near campus, and the crime statistics on campus. The city also has a lot of abandoned buildings. I also think one of the main reasons why my family was so turned off on the idea of Columbia was driving on the interstate - it goes right through the city. Not exactly a scenic view.

For me and my parents, it was a top priority to be safe on and near campus. I was allowed and encouraged to apply to schools in larger cities - DC, Boston, and NYC - just not Columbia. I have no bad feelings toward Columbia, just stating fact regarding their crime statistics.
