If i do early decision to JHU, i know it can be a reach school for me and the possibility of me getting in is larger. But im worried about being binded to it. Basically my questions are , if i do JHU regular admission , is it still possible for me to enter?
Also, if i do early action to tufts, BU, or BC what are my chances in getting in?
Also my chances in getting in regular admission?
I think rather than worrying about ED, you should be focussed on finding some matches and safeties right now. Unless both your GPA and test scores drastically improve, your chances at these schools are very slim, with the possible exception of BU. You should apply to some schools where you know your chances are good, and one or two where your admission is almost guaranteed.
Find a safety or two for which you have assured admission, you can definitely afford, and you would be happy to attend. Talk to your parents about how much they can pay. Then apply wherever else you like. For chances post in the chance me forum. BTW, don’t forget Bright Futures which would be available in-state.
To chance yourself, look at the Common Data Set for each school, Section C (google it) for the latest year that the data is available. This lets you compare yourself academically to admitted their admitted students. For example, Johns Hopkins: http://web.jhu.edu/registrar/reports/Reports_2012_2013/CDS_20122013.pdf
According to the data, your test score puts you in the lowest 25% of the class. Your grades put you in the lowest 15% of the class. As a URM, you will get a slight boost - but probably not enough to get you admitted. Even if you were admitted, you are looking at a very tough slog academically relative to other incoming students.
You can do the same analysis for the other schools by looking at their common data sets.
As the others have said, you need matches and safeties - and less reachy reaches.
Also, you don’t mention any financial constraints: Should we assume that you can afford the $60k of tuition/living expenses each year or are you looking for financial and merit aid? If you do need aid, then you should be looking at schools where you would be in the top of the admitted students, not in the bottom.
Lastly, we could use more information about what you plan to study/career objectives and what your criteria are for choosing schools (if you want us to suggest some reasonable possibilities.)
Did you take PSAT and if so did your score qualify you for National Merit Hispanic recognition? That would help. Also will you need FA? That should come into play as you make your list. You do need to find safeties. Sounds like you’re in florida so maybe some of those? What is your projected major? A little more info will help folks better advise.
