Need help deciding which college is good for Biology Major

Hi everyone, I am a senior in high school who needs help deciding which college is good for Biology major. I live in Michigan and was not accepted into Michigan State University. I also applied to University of Arizona, Penn State 2+2 plan, University of Cincinnati, and University of Massachusets Boston. I have gotten accepted into all these colleges, but my parents want me to go to MSU. They want me to appeal my decision, but I don’t want to because I want to go to UArizona. University of Arizona is a research school and is a good school for science. I play lacrosse and UArizona has a good lacrosse team. I don’t like MSU because the professors aren’t good, bad reputation (party), and it’s mostly good in business management and agricultural sciences. My parents want me to go to school near home because they think I can’t live by myself. My parents are Indian and they think they have to move with me. I try to explain, but my parents don’t understand how college life works. I live 15 minutes away from MSU and I know if I did attend, they would annoy me. During high school, I had to study at the library or somewhere quiet because they would always call me for help instead of my 2 younger siblings. I know I can live by myself because I mostly do a lot around the house for my family. All of the chores, organization, and just things that need to be done around the house is done by me. I don’t know if they can live without me and that’s why they want me to stay home. I need help choosing which college is good. I have to convince my parents that UArizona is a good choice for me. Please help. Thank You.

1, you can’t go to a school that you haven’t been accepted. 2, an appeal is unlikely to work. 3, you likely need your parents support to pay for school. 4, May 1st is coming fast.

MSU appeals work. I know people who have appealed and have gotten in. I need help knowing which is good for biology.

If your appeal for MSU works, you can probably save money by staying in-state. It also will greatly reduce travel requirements. However, it seems unlikely to me that an appeal will work. I will admit that we live way east of you and have not looked into schools in Michigan.

One thing to point out to your parents regarding the University of Arizona: Every university is full of students who were living with their parents until they went to university, but are now living on their own (or more likely for freshmen in a dorm). The entire university is set up specifically to cater to young people who are living on their own for the first time. There are people there on campus specifically to check to make sure that the students are okay. There will be counselor’s on campus, and some sort of senior people living in the dorms. One of the most important points of their being a college campus is that the entire campus is specifically set up to support young people living on their own for the first time.

Also, we all grow up and get older over time. Teenagers need to learn to turn into adults. Going off to university is a big part of this for at least half of the population of the US.

@DadTwoGirls Thank You for your response. Do you know if University of Arizona is a good school for biology major? My parents think that the ranking of college makes the school better and gives you a better life for the future, such as jobs and reputation, and salary. MSU is ranked #84 and UArizona is ranked #117 in National Universities according to USNEWS.

Beyond the top ranked colleges that attract college-elitist employers, most variation in job and pay prospects at graduation is related to major rather than college. Biology tends not to be associated with high pay after graduation.

@ucbalumnus Thank you for your response. I understand that it’s not high pay right after graduation. Biology gets high paid by the student’s experience.
