I am currently at a community college in Texas, and I am looking to transfer in the fall of 2013. Here are my stats:

High school: (I don't know if this matters for transfer)
GPA: 3.2
No SAT or ACT (I really messed up high school.)

College:
GPA: 4.0 (Likely to drop to around 3.8 because of a chemistry class)
Geology Major

I have some volunteer hours, but I'm not a part of any clubs right now.

The schools I am looking at in state are UT Austin and Texas A&M. And now my dilemma is, I really want to get out of state for school. I am just ready to get away from my family, and I know it is expensive but I think it would be nice. I am not sure what schools I should be looking at out of state. I am interested in applying to SUNY Binghamton. I am not interested in any schools in California, so if anyone could give me some advice about which schools I should be applying to that would be fantastic. I don't want to waste money applying to schools that I have no chance of getting in to.

Also, what is a good way to handle my grandparents. They are insistent that I go to an instate school, but them pressuring me just makes me want to go out of state more. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Plus, they are not paying for my schooling so I feel like they don't have a say.

Sorry for the long post!
Thanks for any advice.

How long have you been at CC? You never took the ACT or SAT? How much can your family afford for college? Bing MAY be cost competitive with your instate schools. You’d need to check that.

I have been at CC for 1 year. This semester is my 3rd semester. I never took the SAT because I screwed around in high school and didn’t plan for university. My family is not going to help me pay for college so I will be taking out student loans, and I will also apply for scholarships. As for Binghamton, since I will be paying out of state tuition I know it will be more expensive, but I have just about had enough of Texas and with the degree I am getting, I think I will be able to handle it. Need some advice on this though, I see alot of people who go to more expensive schools, can’t find a job and have massive student loans to pay back.
