Need help deciding >.<

I've been accepted to a few unis, but I'm only seriously considering 3 of them: USC, WUSTL, and UNC at Chapel Hill.

For WUSTL, I applied for English (writing) as a major, because they did not have a major specifically for Communications. When I e-mailed the school, the response I got was that many students wanting to go into communications/journalism field choose English as a major. However, I'm not sure if this would help me in a future career as it seems like such a vague major.

I want to study communications, which I know both UNC and USC are strong in. Can you guys please tell me what you think of their prestige (of all 3 schools as a whole and of the departments) and also whether it is worth it to spend $50000+ a year on a private uni? I am an international student from Hong Kong.

I will also post this on the threads of the other schools. Any help is much appreciated!

I know nothing about UNC, but I live nearly 20 minutes away from WUstl and have visited friends there too many times to count :)

I know for a fact that prestige wise, WUstl as an institution alone is probably considered stronger. I don't agree that every aspect of this opinion is true, and if you're planning on studying communications this is practically worthless. WUstl has no communications major because that department is not a priority and is not one of the school's strengths; it has a decent english program, but if you're convinced you want to study communications I don't think you would necessarily be happy with an english major.

All that aside, I do know that all my friends are ridiculously happy at WUstl and were it not 20 minutes away from my house, I would probably be attending there next year. It is a beautiful place, with great people and a strong academic focus. I'm sure if you do decide to attend, it will prepare you for whatever career you're interested in.

Even in St. Louis, both USC and UNC have a good reputations. I really don't know that much about their communications departments, but I have heard that USC is strong in that program and if you're in love with california (like I am!) and plan on living there after graduation (like me!), I think the alumni networking would prove extremely helpful. But I'm not even a college freshman yet, so my words shouldn't be taken too seriously :)

good luck!
