hey guys! okay so far ive been accepted to sdsu, ucsc, and ucr ( uci, ucd, and ucsd are still pending) but anyways, my plan was to transfer to ucsb and sadly i didnt even get in. well ive been considering just picking from the three schools i got in but i cant make a decision. it was stupid but i put all my eggs in one basket and did all the course work and everything toward going to ucsb. now my question is... what do you guys think i should do? should i just pick one of the three schools i got into and just go,or should i wait another year and work on my stats and apply again next year? (the only thing with waiting is ive completed all my 60 units in 2 years so i feel like it would be a waste of time to just wait a year, but then again im not really excited to go anywhere else but sb) PLEASE HELP :(((

I’d just go.

Well obviously you really wanna go to UCSB if your nickname is ucsbdreams lol.

I live in SB and I go to SBCC. I can see why people really love UCSB but I personally rather go to UCSD than to UCSB. If I were you I would wait for sandiego and if not admitted then I would go to UCSC. I know many people who choose UCSD over UCSB and it has been getting a lot of hype lately.

Bottom line is we all want to go to our dream school but if not admitted it is better to go to another one than to waste another year at CC. You can still get drunk and party without being in Isla Vista.

Good luck!

but where? i feel like all the schools have the same rankings but are in jsut diff locations.
im poli sci major btw.

be patient, you may still get into ucd or uci or another school. Visit those schools, my mom went to SDSU and she loved it (still trying to push me to go to UCSD). UCSC is a great school too. UCR is hot (Sorry, Riverside is just too hot for me, but its still a great school).

Do yourself the favor an visit the other UC’s, you may learn to love them.

One question. Why did you get rejected from UCSB? What were your stats?

they weren’t all that good ill admit
2.7
but all pre reqs are done
and igetc is completed
i explained during my first semester i had some family issues and i had to get a job ontop of having a 16 unit semester, which is where i got the 2 Ds that effs up my gpa. im taking7 classes atm but its pretty tough and idk if i will have new enough info to even appeal.

I think your stats is pretty rough… I personally think the best school u can fit with ur stats is UCSC or SDSU… cux ur gpa is kinda low

Its a rumor that they may raise the TAG from 3.0 to be a little higher for next year because of the number of applicants. So you are much better of transferring now.

Transferring next year will be difficult. I’d advise you go to one of the UCs you got accepted into now.

With a 2.7, I’d ride that UCSC or SDSU transfer until the wheels fall off. Be happy you got into those schools.

BUT I’ll give you a heads up. Your UC GPA is 0.00 if you transfer to SC, but you KEEP your community college GPA if you transfer to SDSU.

If you think you can really work hard and get a 3.5, then accept UCSC’s admission and get some good grades and apply next year, but if you think your work ethic will be about the same, then I think SDSU is probably an easier school to graduate from and you’ll meet a lot of people.

well if i were to retake those classes i got D’s in ( hist, and spech) i would prolly be at a 3. something and ontop of my grades this semester. but either way ucsc doesnt seem to rank all that high and its REALLY far from home. so out sdsu or ucr which is better?

From what I think, UCSC is better than SDSU and about even with Riverside. Riverside is a very small student body though. They have way less undergraduates than other colleges. I’d say SDSU over UCR, but I still think UCSC is better than SDSU. I could be wrong though.

Retake the classes you got D’s in and apply for academic renewal. That will overwrite the D with the better grade.

also i want to go to grad school so what school would look better on an application

The school doesn’t matter as much as GPA and statistics. It depends on major. For political science, they’d be looking at GPA, internships, experience related to the field and maybe some research but not too much. Mostly they’ll look at GPA and your MRE score. But they’re not going to care too much about the name of your school. SDSU or UCSC or UCR doesn’t matter as much as 3.5 or 3.6. You definitely need to cut the problems at home away from studying and pick up your grades if you wanna go to graduate school.

One thing to consider - If you like any of the schools you applied to for graduate school, then go there. There’s a significant amount of advising, preparation and possible priority status to get accepted to a graduate school if you went there as an undergraduate. This isn’t for sure, don’t get me wrong, but it can help.

Some UC’s have five year MA or MS programs, but there’s a GPA requirement.

Pretty sure UCSC will look better than UCR or SDSU. It’s my second choice, above all the other UCs except Berkeley, and I’ve been accepted everywhere that’s responded so far.

only problem with ucsc is that it doesnt have any sort of interantional relations program with i was considering doing an emp. on. so maybe ucr is a better choice? idk:/

@ Essenar

If UCSBdreams takes the class over, they don’t have to apply for academic renewal cause the new grade will automatically replace the inferior grade. Academic renewal is only for people who don’t want to take that class over and wants it taken out of the gpa.

I can’t believe there are still people who didn’t hear from UCI or UCSD. It’s amazing to me since I heard over a month ago. Maybe it’s because I applied on November 2nd?

@lintij: I submitted mine as soon as possible on the morning of April 1st, but still haven’t heard from UCI. This makes me think it’s random.
