Hey! I never saw anyone applying for CCNY for performing arts in these threads. Why? It's not a good school? What about the location? I heard it was in Harlem...

The main City College campus is in Upper Manhattan - it’s not in the traditional Harlem area, although it was a pretty rough neighborhood (heavily Dominican) for many years. It is improving and gentrifying, as so much of Manhattan has become unaffordable. I don’t know much about its performing arts programs. Brooklyn College (part of the CCNY system) has an excellent, tiny B.F.A. program (only about a dozen students accepted each year). I understand that Queens College is very strong, especially in voice and music - my friend’s daughter transferred there from Sarah Lawrence, believing that they offered better training. Hunter College (originally the woman’s faculty for CCNY) is on the Upper East Side; I don’t know anything about their theater department either. Are you an NYC resident? Housing is a major consideration if you aren’t.

thanks for your reply. I’m not american and I’m in a boarding school now in NY. But I’m planning on renting or actually buying an apartment in manhattan or brooklyn. i just havent heard from neither brooklyn college or queens college… I will look at brooklyn college. Is it close to manhattan? I just love manhattan and want to be there most of the time even though i might live in brooklyn

There needs to clear up of the information here.

CUNY is City University of New York which consists of 17 college, community colleges and senior college (schools with Bachelors and Masters)

CCNY is City College of New York which is part of the CUNY system, located in Harlem. It is its one school but it is under the CUNY system. Think of SUNY, University of x state such as California, Cal State etc.

FYI, for anyone who is considering CUNY schools, there is dorms at Brooklyn, Hunter, City and Queens.

Reveriece: Brooklyn College is 30 minutes away from Manhattan.
