Need help finding a college right for me

Hi everyone. I'm currently a Sophmore in High School, and it really started hitting me how I need to start looking hard at colleges. I'm from southern Tennessee, and would very much prefer to stay in a southern(ish) school, or any other good southern school just so I can be around people more like how I've grown up.

My grades go something like (not final yet, but around this area)
Sophmore
Document Layout- mid to high A

American Business Legal- mid to high A

Honors English- mid to high B

Algebra II- high C low B (I know it's TERRIBLE but I've gotten all kinds of help with it and still can't do math well)

Also, I took that pre ACT thing as a Freshman and made an 18, which isn't great but I figure by the time I've learned all I can in High School, it'll be much higher. Plus, half the stuff on the thing I hadn't even taken the class, like Geometry, etc.

I like to think my grades are ok, but could be better. I plan on really cracking down when I get a fresh start next year. I won't lie, I can't really stand school aside from interesting courses like history, but I work as hard as I can. I really want to go somewhere with a pretty campus (not a city campus) with it's own traditions, ya know? That's a main reason I'd prefer a southern(ish) school. I would also prefer a school with very friendly people, I utterly hate stuck up or snobbish people who are not accepting.

If you guys don't mind helping me out, that'd be great. Include some info about the school, whether you think I could get in, what the campus is like, what the people are like, etc. Thanks

Living in Tennessee, I'm sure you know about UT. It really fits the criteria you are stating. Especially when it comes to traditions. And even though it's in Knoxville, it doesn't have a 'city feel,' since it has a bunch of trees, etc.

And you would get in-state tuition. Not too bad. :)

Yeah I know about UT, but to be honest it's never really impressed me. I don't really know what I want to major in right now, but I really like history. I hear North Carolina is a good history school. Anyone mind telling me what the UNC campus, people, and school is like? Thanks.

When I was younger, my dream school was UNC and up until I visited last summer I thought it's where I wanted to go.

The campus is pretty. It's full of old buildings, trees, etc. The people were mostly friendly. Some had a sense of snobery about them, but overall they were nice.

I wasn't really impressed though. UNC was lacking that something that I was looking for. Interestingly enough, the girl who was my tour guide talked to me about what other schools I was interested in and such and told me that I should go to Tennessee. I was pretty intent on going to UT anyway at that point, but having an outside opinion was really valuable.

If your interested in UNC, I'd definately go for a visit and take a tour. It makes a difference.

UNC is probably the hardest public school aside from Berkely and UCLA to get into from OOS... but I don't want to discourage you...

I would also check out University of Kentucky, University of South Carolina and University of Florida or NC State

I would also check out University of Kentucky, University of South Carolina and >>>University of Florida<<< or NC State

Not with an 18 on the ACTs.....

Elon
Furman
Clemson
Guilford
Ole Miss
Centre

I doubt he has the stats for Elon or Centre.

I think the avg SAT at Elon is 1050 or so. Although, honestly, I don't understand ACT scores. But my PSAT score was 400 pts lower than what I ended up with.

I would still try Kentucky and South Carolina

I think the avg SAT at Elon is 1050 or so.

Elon:

Average GPA: 3.72
Average SAT: 1208
Average ACT: 26

Yeah....:P
