I've been researching colleges, but not sure exactly what I want to major in, possibly CS (albeit I haven't taken a CS class but I'm teaching myself some coding and I like it). I would like to go somewhere flexible in case I decide to change my major. I'm trying to find small liberal arts colleges with good CS programs, or well-rounded medium/large universities with smaller class sizes/liberal arts feel. Locationwise, I don't want to go South but anywhere else is good. Suggestions for safety, match, and reach schools are all welcome :)

About me, if this helps at all:
Californian, female, Asian American
GPA: 4.0 (as of junior year), top 10%
SAT: 2270
Subject Tests: 750 Bio; 800 Math II; 760 Chemistry
I will have taken 5 AP's by the end of senior year.
EC's: marching band, varsity track and field, choir, clarinet, some volunteering at summer camps

Thank you!

Look into the Claremont colleges

Claremont Consortium could offer you a great deal along the lines you want: small classes, good CS, liberal arts if you change your mind. Very tough admission rates this past year. You might want to make it easier for your admission by applying to Pitzer or Scripps, as the others are tougher admits. Generally small classes and CS don’t go together in the first couple years. LACs tend not to have very large CS depts, some of them with only a couple tenure-track faculty and not many CS courses as a result. You might look at Tulane’s efforts to open up a CS dept; Tulane would be a low match for you and you’d get a lot of money; the classes would be smaller because they’re just bringing the program online this year?. Carnegie Mellon will have relatively smaller classes and liberal arts but it is extremely difficult to get into. All these proposed institutions offer many other majors besides CS and are expensive; how much money do your parents promise to provide you? what do the schools expect them to provide? how will you bridge the gap, if there is one?

Thanks guys! (: will look into these schools
@jkeil911 hmm yeah many of the LAC’s I’ve looked at had 2-3 professors in the CS dept. Also cost will probably be an issue; I’m not sure if my parents are willing to pay 60+k a year I’ll talk to them about it. Thanks for the help!
