Need Help finding Safeties

Hey, i'm pretty much decided on my reach/match schools, but i believe that there is a very real chance that i won't get into any of them. That's why i'm going crazy trying to pick some safeties. Anyways, here are my stats.

Indian (Born in America) Male
School Type: Connecticut Public - 1600 kids (400/grade)
GPA: 3.53 UW
Rank: We don't rank, but my counselor said definatley top 10%.

Course Selection: Probably in the top 2% in the grade in terms of difficulty. From 10-12th i've taken 14 honors/ap courses. Our school didn't offer honors in 9th. Because of this, i actually had a 4.0 in 9th grade. In 10th and 11th this dropped to about 3.35. Although i'm at about a 3.6uw so far in 12th.

SAT: 740 math, 640 cr, 660 writing. I took them again this past saturday, and am likely to improve about 100-150 pts overall.

SAT 2: 760 math IIc, 720 u.s. history, taking Chem november 5th.

Extra:
Debate Society (won a trophy at one meet, not one of the leaders though)
Jazz Band (Trumpet, again, not the lead trumpet)
Varsity Tennis (State Champions, hope that helps)
National Spanish Honors Society
National Honors Society
Senior Member in a Hindu Youth Group that does lots of volunteering
4 week internship at Stanford Hospital over the summer.

What I am looking for in a college:

Flexibility in Course Selection: I'm interested in computer science, psychology, and eventually Med School. I need a school that will allow me to do these things at the same time. That probably means they'll have to allow double majoring in different colleges with in the university, and have minimal university wide course requirements.

Size: I'd prefer 5,000 +. Mainly for social reasons, but also because i'm likely to experiment in several different fields. So the bigger the university, the more options i'll have to explore (or so i think).

Location: Anywhere in New England or the mid-atlantic.

I think that's all the info you need, if you want to know anything else just ask. Keep in mind i'm looking for safeties, like schools i'll have about a 70% chance at getting in.

If your wondering, my reach/match schools are Brown, Johns Hopkins, and Cornell. Feel free to comment on my chances at those schools. Thanks alot.

i would say those ivies are reachs for u, try u of michigan, that should be a match

Even Johns Hopkins? Because my counselor said that was a match, meaning i have a 50% of getting accepted. I'll look at at Umich, but when you say 'match'. Do you mean its a match for my request (ie safety schools), or a match as in 50/50?

Thanks betterday.

You have at least at 75 percent shot at Michigan, if not higher, if you raise your SATs like you think.

sorry i meant U of michigan is safety, but yea john hopkins.....i would say... reach, probably slight reach

I just checked out Umich's website. They have both a 'Computer Science Engineering' major and a 'Computer Science' major. The CS major is in the College of Literature, Science and the Arts (LSA), while the the CSE major is in the College of engineering. Anyone know the differences? I might be able to do everything in the LSA college, cause it has both CS and psychology, which looks promising (Instead of having to double major between colleges like i anticipated).
Also, can anyone comment on the reputation of Umich's psych program?

I don't think Michigan is a safety with a 3.5 GPA for out-of-state. U-M's psych department is highly regarded as are most departments. You may want to add more match/safties to your list. Look at the University of Rochester. Good science and pre-med. Think about some LACs. Most have computer science, pre-med and psych. It's not like you're interested in anything terribly unusual. Also, at some LACs, your tennis may give you an edge.

If interested in pre-med or computer science might look at Tufts or Holy Cross both have great reputations. HC might be easier to get into.

Syracuse would be a definite safety for you, and fits your other criteria as well. Apply to either Arts & Sciences or the school of information sciences. Fairly easy to take classes and transfer between those two particular schools.

This might sound stupid. But the combination of being ranked #8 on PR's 'little class/race interaction' list, and only having a 6% asian student body, kind of painted a bleak social picture for me at Syracuse. Is this concern legit, or am i just being retarded?

Oh wow, i just remembered Umich is rolling admissions. How much do you think my chances will decrease if i don't apply until November 20th? I was reading in the Umich forums that you should apply before halloween for your best chances.

this might sound stupid, but what's rolling admissions?

are you applying to your state school? uconn is a great school, its reputation is getting better and better.

Surprisingly, no. My sister already goes there, and I know i would end up coming home like every weekend. I'm afraid going there would inhibit the independence that comes with college.

And jenni, rolling admissions means that they accept candidates as applications come in. So the later you send your application, the fewer spots available.

FlyinV, can you stretch yur geographic boundaries a bit more?

Emory
WashU
Vandy
Lafayette
Lehigh

I thought WashU, Emory and Vandy were quite competitive. Are you sure you would call those safeties?

Not safeties, sorry, just less beaten path suggestions easier than your reaches.

Syracuse, Union, Lafayette & Lehigh = lower matches. Truly safe = state school, EA or rolling admission.

Michigan is rolling...so apply ASAP!!!

Brown - Reject
Cornell - ED decent chance, RD - Reject
JHU- ED decent chance, RD - Slight Chance

SB Mom is right, you need more true "matches" like Emory.

Ouch. No chance at cornell?

I think Cornell you have a shot if that 150 pt raise comes through...as is it could be uphill. I actually meant to edit what I said before when I saw you were looking to raise your scores. Brown will be very tough, but you have a shot at the other two.
