Need help finding schools

I'm currently a Sophmore at Univ @ Central Florida majoring in Philosophy with a minor in French. A have a GPA of 3.00 and will have around 62 credits at the end of the sememster. I'm not part of any clubs/EC's.

I've applied to FSU (only because it's a step up and a close friend is a freshman there) and Eckerd College because I would like to go to a liberal arts school, I could still get Bright Futures (75%) and they're generous with FinAid.

I've applied to New College and been rejected, so I don't want to try again.

I'm asking for good, preferably small (maybe even LACs) schools. The problem is that I am limited with my GPA. Any recommendations?

I don't mind religious affiliated schools unless it's something like Bob Jones.
Also, I don't want to graduate with in debt.

Reed College is awesome. Check it out.

The Claremont Colleges are pretty good LAC’s as well. Good luck in your search!

WOT’s suggestion of the Claremont Colleges is not rational. A 3.0 would not be high enough for you to have any real shot at transferring to Pomono, CMC, or Harvey Mudd (which isn’t a fit anyway). Not sure about Scripps (assuming you’re female, otherwise not an option) or Pitzer, but even those seem unlikely with that GPA. A 3.0 isn’t bad, but it does limit transfer options.

If you’re looking to stay in-state, maybe consider Stetson and Florida International.

I agree; that is too low.

Yeah, those LACs are beyond my reaches.

I’m looking for a school that’s more focused on academics rather then sports and/or parties. That’s why I mentioned that I preferred a LAC.

Doesn’t matter if the school is in-state or not, I just don’t want a big debt so no school with a 45k/year tuition and board. And for further reference, I’m a male.

I got accepted at University of Puerto Rico for the spring semester and now I’m debating between to UPR or Eckerd(which I’ve yet to be accepted).

I need to send a letter of recommendation to Eckerds, but since I’ve only taken basic courses, my classes have been of 200+ students. I took French this semester which only had around 20 students, but I got a “C” in that class.

I sent them an email about replacing the letter of rec with an interview but yet to receive an answer.

Anyone have input/advice? Would greatly appreciate it.

Glancing through the FSU rankings concerning philosophy ( [FSU Highlights](<a href=“Rankings | Florida State University”>Rankings | Florida State University) ) I’d say that would be a good move. You might see if any work-study programs are available that could help with expenses. FSU’s latest Rhodes Scholar is a philosophy major: [FSU Dept. of Philosophy](Department of Philosophy)

FSU is on the top of my list but I don’t think my stats are strong enough to get in.

That’s why I’m asking about Eckerd and UPR, which have less info about them on the web. But I know of FSU’s standing in the philosophy standings from other posts on this web forum, but thank you for your interest.
